It's quite good to see Dell refresh the look and design of the Inspiron range of notebooks, starting with the 7000 series, both for the 14-inch and 15-inch versions. The resemblance to the much more premium XPS range is uncanny, and that is a good thing. It offers stable performance and very good battery life. But, the 15.6-inch display is still stuck at 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, which is a disappointment. But for that one shortcoming, the Inspiron 15 7000 is a very capable machine. We would recommend this for the good build, stable performance, much improved keyboard and very good battery life.

Dell Inspiron 7548 is a great multimedia notebook with a thin, sleek and premium design. Maybe a bit on the heavier side, but quite manageable. The laptop is designed to look great, but it does struggle a bit to keep the internals cool. So we are left with 3 other very important aspects for a business worthy notebook – comfortable keyboard and touchpad, good battery life and connectivity. Well, the Inspiron 5551 covers all of that, or at least the most part of it. The keyboard is more than good, but the touchpad is awful. Sometimes it failed to register a right or left mouse click as well as simple gestures or touches – quite frustrating. However, battery life is just amazing – you will get more than 6 hours straight when browsing or watching a movie. As far as connectivity is concerned, our only complaint here is the lack of LAN port. This, in our opinion, is a necessity for most notebooks and since this is not an ultrabook or convertible, an RJ-45 port would be more than appreciated. So is it worth your money? Definitely! This is one of the best notebooks in the lower-end segment.

Dell's Inspiron 15 7000 Series 2-in-1 makes for a great laptop and an OK tablet. It feels in every way like a laptop first and foremost, and I found myself defaulting to the laptop configuration in most instances. The extra screen real estate is welcome in certain scenarios in tablet mode, but the display is just too big to hold over your lap, and you may gravitate towards the HP Spectre x360 for these reasons.

The Dell Inspiron 5545 is a true gem in its class in terms of performance. Not all notebooks under €500 can run GTA V with decent frame rates and this is mainly due to the asymmetric CrossFire configuration that the iGPU and the discrete GPU (both Radeon of course) offer. You can rely on both GPUs to handle graphically intense tasks, but the compute performance and the TDP (19W) are not par with the latest technology trends, though. Still, we cannot be too picky at this price range. Another notable feature of this notebook is the design. It really looks and feels good with solid build quality, but there’s more to be desired in this aspect to be honest. We are disappointed with the size of the keys, the touchpad performance and the silicon legs at the bottom, which failed to keep the notebook stable on the surface. There are too many inconsistencies that can’t be overlooked. The display isn’t anything special as well, but we can let it pass considering the price tag.

Dell has made some sacrifices in order to bring the price to a very competitive level without compromising the notebook reliability. At the end of the day, maybe that’s what is most important for serious work, but you should know that Inspiron 5559 isn’t suitable for anything else. Although the AMD Radeon R5 M335 graphic card has its own dedicated memory (4GB DDR3), this doesn’t necessarily mean that you can use it for gaming – CS:GO is the limit, or may be GTA V and Tomb Raider, at their lowest settings. Let’s put that aside, you probably wouldn’t be reading this review if you’re a gamer – Dell Inspiron 5559 has very good CPU performance and if you invest a hundred bucks in an additional SSD (you can swap the DVD writer with an HDD caddy), the notebook will become blazingly fast in all your business applications. Add to that the aforementioned reliability (secured by the 36 months of NBD warranty), you get one of the best business laptops out there.

In terms of design and construction, the laptop impresses with relatively light and compact dimensions, some parts also feel pretty flexible and smudges stick pretty easily around the whole surface. Still, this is very common for this price range, but what’s uncommon are the surprisingly good input devices. The keyboard and touchpad are pretty comfortable to use.

Ultimately, the Dell Inspiron 15 5568 shares many of the same flaws as its nearest competitor, the 14.1in Lenovo Yoga 700. It’s incredibly fast and has plenty of power, but its poor display, problematic keyboard and underwhelming battery life make it one huge compromise when it comes to everything else. Overall, the Yoga 700 just about comes out on top, as its screen is marginally more accurate and its battery lasts just that little bit longer. However, it’s also £100 more expensive than the Inspiron 15 5568, which is a sizable increase in price for not a lot of benefit.
