Razer laptops have always carried a certain gravitas, but I think the latest Blade 16 might be one of the first to truly deserve it. This is a gloriously potent gaming laptop, with the sort of screen you could happily stare at all day and enough ports at the sides to become a very effective desktop replacement. Yet it also has a long-lasting battery and is light enough that you can happily take it on the move. OK, it’s expensive, especially in 5090 guise – but name a laptop with that GPU that isn’t. The ‘Razer tax’ does mean you pay a premium over the likes of Asus, MSI or Lenovo, but you’re getting a design that’s almost on par with Apple for your money. If you have the funds, it’ll demolish any game you can throw at it for years to come.

The stunning form factor of the Blade 16 is possible due to several design decisions which might be regarded by some as compromises, depending on their priorities. One of which is the soldered LPDDR5X memory, which offers size and efficiency advantages, but loses out on modularity. You can certainly upgrade the storage via the two standard Gen 4 M.2 2280 slots, but the system RAM must be configured at checkout. There's the odd outlier such as some simulation games, but at least for now, 32 GB RAM seems enough for most titles. Maybe this could change over the next few years, but no one knows exactly when. A 64 GB configuration might be a safer bet if you plan to keep this laptop for many years or do certain productivity work, but that amount of memory will definitely cost you an arm and a leg since it must be combined with the RTX 5080/5090—you can't pick one without the other.

As far as the hardware goes, this Razer Blade 16 is arguably the best notebook available in the thin-and-light high-performance segment today, with a premium chassis, good ergonomics, a beautiful and versatile OLED display, and excellent performance and thermals for this form factor. But software inconsistencies and weird configurability options are culprits hard to stomach at this level.

Razer’s new Blade 16, especially our tricked-out RTX 5090-based model, delivers exactly the experience you’d expect, for better and worse. The Blade looks and feels as luxurious as ever; it has an advanced gaming-ready display; and it delivers blistering-fast frame rates with the top-end GPU from the latest generation. However, the laptop is also quite expensive across all configurations, only a plausible pick for the most affluent shoppers. Even for those who look at, say, higher-end MacBook Pro models, this is like ordering one of Apple’s machines with all the frills. Most shoppers simply won’t consider this price range, but some do; for those enthusiasts, the Blade presents that luxe experience and performance. If you're going to pay this much, you'll find gaming laptops with higher performance ceilings—bigger and thicker machines that focus on power—but the Blade 16 mixes it all together with a decisive, unmatched cool factor among laptop PCs.

Razer has returned to their roots with the 2025 Razer Blade 16 that’s slimmed down and lighter. A truly ultraportable gaming laptop with an NVIDIA RTX 5090 and the heat & power frugal AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 are a good pairing for the new design. It’s also available with lower end RTX 5xxx GPUs for those who don’t want to spend huge money. The laptop has a 240Hz OLED 2560 x 1600 display, improved keyboard and improved battery life compared to the 2024 model. It competes directly with the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 and indirectly with thicker and heavier 16” gaming laptops like the Lenovo Legion 7 Pro.

The 2025 revision of the Razer Blade 16 continues to amaze – it's a supremely powerful laptop squeezed into a body that rivals a MacBook Pro. This is close to being as subtle as gaming laptops get – green Razer logo excluded, of course – and is a terrific premium option for those looking to stay stealthy, yet get the utmost from their gaming sessions.

Every time I’ve tested a high-end Razer Blade, I’ve seen it sacrifice performance in its pursuit of a slimmer, lighter design. That’s true again here, putting it at odds with the kind of high-performance parts you can configure the 2025 Blade 16 to include. The Blade 16’s RTX 5090 falling behind other systems running RTX 5080 and RTX 4090 GPUs is a bad look, especially when the Blade 16 hits such a lofty price to provide that RTX 5090. For those seeking extreme performance, the Blade 16 just doesn’t stand out as sensible. The lower-tier models of the Blade 16 may actually be where it begins to make sense. The Legion Pro 7i 16 Gen 10 that has harried the Blade 16 so thoroughly through our benchmarking suite has a base price of $2,849 and comes with an RTX 5070 Ti.

Ultimately, the GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU clearly demonstrates NVIDIA’s push towards maximising mobile graphics performance, albeit within the physical and thermal constraints of a gaming laptop. From a purely gaming perspective, however, it might seem like excessive firepower for a 16-inch display like the Razer Blade 16 (2025) – particularly when DLSS 4 already offers impressive performance boosts even on slightly lower-tier GPUs like the RTX 5080 or 5070 Ti. Most gamers probably won't feel the difference enough to justify the premium price of this flagship GPU, especially at common laptop resolutions like 1440p or 1600p. That said, the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU truly shines for users who want their laptops to double as serious content creation or AI-driven workstations.

The biggest thing getting in the way of someone committing to the Razer Blade 16 (2025) is likely the price. With the lowest configuration retailing for $3,000, this model is a significant investment. And my particular configuration was around $4,500. The investment, though costly, does provide you with a very high-performing gaming laptop that can handle just about anything. Still, it has limitations, like fewer threads than some other highly ranked gaming laptops for pro-level multitasking (the Alienware m18 R2, for example, has a model with an Intel Core i9 14900HX with 32 threads) or its 160W max power, thanks to its slimmer design. Still, I found little to dislike about the latest Razer Blade 16, and I think most gamers would be elated to have it in their arsenal.

There’s still nothing quite like the Blade 16. It’s the well-fitting black T-shirt to the try-hard tacticool cargo pants of other gaming laptops, and it’s still the closest thing you’ll find to a MacBook Pro for gaming. The battery life is middling and the price for the 5090 version is obscene, but laptop gamers always pay a premium for portability. The biggest hangup with the 5090 version of the Blade 16 is that the 5080 is breathing down its neck for $1,000 less. We don’t know yet if the Blade’s thinness is holding the 5090 back — not until I test a Blade with the 5080 or another 5090 laptop with more thermal headroom. Regardless, Razer aimed to make the Blade 16 a return to form, and it delivered.

Razer opted for a non-gaming AMD Ryzen AI CPU to power the Blade 16 due to its ultra slim chassis. Razer also revamped the vapor chamber cooling system for the same reason. However, both have their issues. The Blade 16 (2025) still gets extraordinarily hot under pressure. And while the RTX 5090 gaming performance on the Blade 16 is very smooth, it isn’t quite as powerful as we expected, especially compared to the RTX 4090 or RTX 5080. It's not a bad implementation of the RTX 5090, but it is a complicated choice for the flagship GPU. The Razer Blade 16 is also an expensive laptop, with very pricey upgrades. While we haven’t tested the RTX 5080 or 5070Ti versions of the Blade 16 (2025), it may be worth opting for a more mid-range GPU to save some money without a massive performance hit.

Razer's latest and greatest gaming laptop delivers power and style in spades, offering best-in-class performance in games and even managing to hold its own as a day-to-day work laptop thanks to the improved battery life. Nvidia RTX 5000 GPU options bring DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation to the party, and some small but smart design tweaks from the previous model help make this an even better high-end laptop. Just be prepared to empty your bank account, mmmkay?

On the audio front, Razer has increased the speaker array from four to six, which should result in improved sound quality, particularly when gaming and watching movies. The laptop retains the astonishingly good 240Hz OLED display as the older Blade 16, which we said in our review was one of the best OLED displays on a gaming laptop – the 2025 Blade 16’s display produces exceptional, vibrant colours. While the exact price of the Blade 16 has yet to be confirmed, we know it won’t be cheap. The model that we tested last year came with a GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU and was priced at S$5,399 so it’s safe to assume the 2025 Blade 16 will sit at the higher end of the gaming laptop spectrum, especially given Razer’s premium positioning in the market.
