Alienware 16 Area-51 (2026) review: This gaming laptop is a true behemoth

It's hard to fully decouple the new Area-51 from two main factors – its heft and its price. Its price, meanwhile, shows just how damaging the memory crisis is for laptop businesses, since the OLED upgrade only slightly softens the blow of its objectively sky-high starting cost compared to last time out.

I just tested the new Alienware 16 Area-51 — and the OLED panel makes it the complete package
Source: Tom's Guide EN→zh-CN
With the inclusion of an OLED panel, this year’s Alienware 16 Area-51 is now the complete package. Not only do games look incredible on its 16-inch display, but they also run like a dream thanks to the powerful components housed inside the otherworldly chassis. Though pricey, this delivers a superlative gaming experience.

Alienware 16 Area-51 Review: Otherworldly Powerhouse Gaming Performance
Source: Techaeris EN→zh-CN
Evaluating the Alienware 16 Area-51 (AA16250) showed an unapologetic, high-performance desktop replacement built for maximum thermal headroom and high frame rates. Updating the previous Alienware 16 chassis, this Area-51 iteration pairs Intel’s Core Ultra 9 series processors with high-tier NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics in a distinctive Liquid Teal anodized aluminum housing that fully embraces Alienware’s sci-fi aesthetic.

The Alienware Trap - Area 51 2026 Laptop Review
Source: Hardware Canucks
Alienware laptops have been leaders of build quality, gaming performance and even battery life since their refresh last year but 2026 has their Area-51 in an interesting position. We now get (FINALLY) an OLED and 290HX Plus CPU for better benchmarks but is that enough to keep this as the best gaming laptop in 2026? Well, we need to talk about price to see if the Alienware 16 Area-51 can still stand out.

Alienware finally gave the Area-51 the OLED screen it should have had from the start
Source: XDA Developers EN→zh-CN
The Alienware 16 Area-51 now has the one thing that last year's release was missing: an OLED screen option. Whether you prefer that or IPS, island-style keys or mechanical switches, you have options to suit your needs. It's big, bold, and beautiful, and will turn heads as easily as it catches fingerprints. The few issues I have with it are minor.
