戴尔在新的Inspiron5000系列中坚持着“更轻，更薄，更低能耗”的理念。但是这样就够了吗？它的机身设计雅致，而铝合金上盖更给人一种高端产品的感觉；相比 Inspiron 15-5547它的做工也给人更好的印象。比起它的小兄弟，它的屏幕也好很多，尽管触摸屏的镜面材质在户外使用中有些不便。

不过，它的连接性有些不足：很少的USB接口，没有802.11ac标准的高速WiFi连接，没有千兆以太网接口。它也没有配备对比中其他同类产品的独立显卡。需要承认的是，那些显卡也无法提供高质量的游戏体验，但它们保证了Inspiron 17-5748完全没有提供的基本游戏功能。另外，它缓慢的机械硬盘降低了系统响应速度，不过这可以简单地通过升级一块固态硬盘来改善。

它的系统噪音和散热控制得很好，扬声器的效果也不差。在我们的测试中，特别是接近实际使用情况的情况下，它的能耗和电池续航表现都很好。

对游戏玩家和喜欢高配置的用户参考戴尔的Inspiron 17-7377。它提供了高质量的金属机身，更长的电池续航，特别是一块中端独立显卡，这让玩游戏成为了可能。不过用户需要付出额外的400欧元(约537美元)。需要轻薄的17寸笔记本的用户，可能需要避免选择触控屏幕；而且，17寸笔记本电脑本身就很难提供很高的便携性。
