But in this long term review I used it for over 4 months as my only laptop and came to some interesting conclusions about the MacBook Pro battery life, keyboard, temperatures, performance and noise. And what will happen when the MacBook Pro M4 is released?

The MacBook Pro M3 Pro proves to be a good work tool for everyday tasks. It’s noticeably faster than the MacBook Pro M3–the extra money you must pay to upgrade from the M3 to the M3 Pro is well spent money. The MacBook Pro M3 isn’t a bad laptop–it’s Apple’s pricing that is out whack. As a replacement for a MacBook Pro from the Intel era, or a M1 MacBook Air or a 13-inch MacBook Pro, the lower-end M3 Pro it is a great step forward. However, if you have an M2 Pro MacBook Pro, the lower-end M3 Pro does not offer any added value that makes a switch seem sensible–the lower-end M3 Pro just doesn’t provide enough of a boost over the M2 Pro.

Apple’s 2023 M3 MacBook Pro models come in a somewhat confusing array of configs and the usual 2 sizes. We look at the middle configurations that many folks are actually considering rather than the highest and lowest end models available. In this review we cover the 14” MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro (12 core CPU / 18 core GPU) and the 16” MacBook Pro with an M3 Max (14 core CPU / 30 core GPU). These are retail configurations rather than BTO and can be found in stores for $2,399 and $3,499 respectively.

The MacBook Pro (M3 Pro/Max, 2023) may not have changed in terms of design, but that's no bad thing. The design is premium, solid, and it delivers an excellent experience overall. The Space Black colour is also lovely, with a serious feel and seemingly less attracted to fingerprints than other MacBook models. There is some impressive power under the hood of the new MacBook Pro too. If you bought the MacBook Pro (M2 Pro/Max, 2023) model earlier this year, you very likely won't need to upgrade, and the same might even be said for the M1 Pro/Max models. But if you're running an older MacBook Pro - especially one not on Apple Silicon - you're in for a treat. The MacBook Pro (M3 Pro/Max, 2023) is by no means cheap. In fact, they are very, very, expensive. But they are also very, very, good.

Apple's 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro strikes an uncommon balance that you could call a "prosumer workstation." Sure, we wish it had gained a touch screen and lost the screen notch, but most Apple shoppers won't be put off by either.
