EN→zh-CNWhile the iPhone Air sucked up a lot of the oxygen in the room when it came to chatter, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are still the best iPhones that Apple sells at premium prices. Their superior camera array and the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s fantastic battery life make these the phones to get if you’re always snapping photos from a distance and testing the limits of your tech. EN→zh-CNAt Rs 1,34,900, the iPhone 17 Pro gets a lot of things right. Sure, Apple still holds back on a few things — like faster charging — but even with that, the phone’s sheer power and its camera capabilities make it feel like a device built for people who want nothing less than the very best. If you simply want a premium flagship experience without going all the way, the regular iPhone 17 will still keep you more than satisfied.

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max share the same tier chipset, the same cameras, and the same new design language - but the Max pushes everything further with its bigger display and longer battery life. But are those worth the price premium? EN→zh-CNStrangely enough, though, the iPhone 17 Pro shares some of the same pitfalls as Google’s latest Pixels as well. Its battery life and charging setup are only average, as the heat from the A19 Pro chipset builds up, causing the device to drain quickly and resulting in a slight performance slowdown. I’d hoped for more from Apple’s new battery claims, especially with a 50% charge in just 20 minutes and a vapor chamber to beat the heat, but neither has really lived up to expectations, even after a month with the phone. And then, there’s Apple Intelligence. I thought it would be much closer to matching Google’s roster of Gemini features by now, but it remains oh so easy to ignore. I barely use the Image Playground; Clean Up still leaves me with wonky artifacts, and a more conversational Siri remains missing in action.

EN→zh-CNAs far as flagships go, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max really deliver, as you get all the things you'd want in a flagship phone. I almost find that you get more value from the iPhone 17 Pro Max than the Pro, given how much you're spending on these phones. But of course, the screen size may not be everyone's cup of tea, so it'll end up coming down to personal choice. All in all, it's an easy recommendation to make if you have the budget to spare.

EN→zh-CNApple iPhone 17 Pro is an incredibly powerful smartphone on so many levels such as photography, videography, gaming and multitasking. It’s so fast and so fluid. It is the perfect smartphone, and very few of the hundreds released each year are perfect. I am a huge fan of the new design, the upgraded zoom and selfie cameras, the dazzling display, the secure and reliable FaceID, the enhanced battery endurance and the way everything just works. The only thing it doesn't do is fold, but maybe that's coming next year.

EN→zh-CNThere’s no denying the Apple iPhone 17 Pro is an excellent phone. It has heaps of performance, a great battery life, fantastic front and rear camera capabilities and a solid build quality. But whether you should buy it or not is a harder question to answer than it is with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Ultimately, it very much depends on how much you think you need the extra power the iPhone 17 Pro model offers over the regular iPhone 17 and how much you will use its extra zoom functionality. With the iPhone 17 offering a number of the same core features, like display and front camera, while costing £300/$300 less, you have to ask yourself if the extras the 17 Pro offers are justified for you. Its design might not be everyone’s cup of tea but the iPhone 17 Pro’s biggest problem isn’t anything to do with what this phone does wrong because frankly, that’s very little.

EN→zh-CNThis year’s focus for the iPhone launch has largely around the new iPhone Air model. While this is an impressive phone, it’s Apple’s flagship models, the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max that really stand out for me. This phone is the peak of Apple’s engineering, and it does everything exceptionally well. The camera system, front and back, has improved and delivers great results, both in still and video formats. The screen is brighter, with incredible detail and smooth motion. The processing power is more than most laptops, while barely breaking a sweat with day-to-day operation. If you want the very best iPhone, you should buy the iPhone 17 Pro or the 17 Pro Max. Both models deliver an outstanding performance. Aside from the slightly smaller screen and slight reduction in battery life, the smaller Pro model does everything the Pro Max does, and I personally prefer the size. Either way, though, you won’t be disappointed.

EN→zh-CNThe question is, should you buy this phone – the iPhone 17 Pro – or opt for the 17 Pro Max, the 17 or the Air? For me, the iPhone 17 Pro is the phone to buy of this current crop of iPhones, despite the ugly redesign. It’s nice and compact, it’s quick and the new 4x telephoto camera is an impressive performer. The battery life is as good as it was on the iPhone 16 Pro Max and you get one more camera than the iPhone 17. Ignore the Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue models (if you can), grab the silver one for long-term good looks and you’re onto a winner. The question as to whether this beats the Android world’s best phones is a more tricky thing to answer. But if you’re after a flagship phone in a more compact package, there isn’t much to compare to the iPhone 17 Pro.

With high-end video features, this is an iPhone to suit the serious content creator, and casual users probably don’t need all this heft. But if an iPhone is your daily driver for photos and video, and you don’t like the bulk of the Pro Max, the 17 Pro is the best you can get.

It’s a requisite step up in terms of power—already the 16 Pro feels noticeably different by comparison—but this year, the iPhone 17 Pro offers a lot more than just a bump up in speed. EN→zh-CNThe Apple iPhone 17 Pro delivers an outstanding performance in the DXOMARK Selfie tests and takes the top spot in our smartphone front camera ranking. It also outperforms its predecessor 16 Pro Max by 3 points. This improvement is driven by a redesigned 18MP Center Stage front camera, featuring the first square image sensor on an iPhone camera. The new sensor design allows for consistent framing, independent from the orientation of the device, and offers a field of view that is wider than on most competing devices, providing greater flexibility in terms of framing and when capturing group selfies. In addition, the output resolution has been increased from 12 to 18MP in full field of view mode. With the tighter field of view, which is best for solo selfies, image size remains at 7MP.

EN→zh-CNThe iPhone 17 Pro is a great smartphone for photographers, being capable of taking excellent images and video. As I say pretty much every year, however, it doesn’t represent a huge evolution in terms of the camera. There are a couple of good improvements – such as finally having three high-resolution sensors, and a long overdue upgrade to the selfie camera. The new square sensor giving you the option to capture selfies horizontally without moving the camera is a feature I scoffed at when I heard about it, but I actually liked it quite a lot in the end. Elsewhere, improvements to things such as battery life, the anti-reflective coating, and the brightness of the screen are all nice-to-haves, but may not be quite enough to tempt you if you already have an iPhone 16 Pro, and possibly the iPhone 15 Pro. Still, keeping hold of your phone for a number of years is no bad thing.

EN→zh-CNThe 17 Pro is the first different-looking iPhone in years, which instantly makes it stand out despite not being functionally all that different from recent models. The new aluminium unibody design feels nice, although it will scratch more easily than glass. The screen and performance are top-notch, while the battery life is solid for a fairly compact handset. It is a really nice iPhone and one of the very best phones that isn’t ginormous. But this year it competes with the super-thin iPhone Air, which steals some of the limelight, and an upgraded standard iPhone 17, which is cheaper but matches the Pro on screen quality for the first time, although it lacks a zoom camera. That leaves the camera as the big differentiator. The 17 Pro has top-notch cameras including a new and improved telephoto camera, which is one of the best in the business. So for an iPhone buyer who wants a telephoto camera to zoom in on your subjects, the 17 Pro is the model to get. You just have to pay a pretty penny for it.

EN→zh-CNThe iPhone 17 finally feels like the iPhone most people wanted years ago. With a 120Hz display, brighter screen, 48 MP ultrawide, and 18 MP Center Stage selfie camera, it should now be the go to iPhone for anyone who isn't looking for those very special and niche Pro fetures on the iPhone 17 Pro. Not to mention that you get 256 GB of storage for the same price as last year's base model. The iPhone 17 Pro, on the other hand, lives up to its name more than any other Pro iPhone that came before it. Not so much for its chip performance, but mainly because of its camera system and the features tied to it. Even more than most Pro iPhones, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will make the most sense for people who actually use their phones professionally, whether that's for product or event photography, content creation, or some other camera-centric field where extra flexibility and added shooting modes can make a real difference. The same goes for people who want a bigger screen, since there's no iPhone 17 Plus. Sure, the 17 Pro also performs a little better than the regular 17, and the battery lasts longer.

EN→zh-CNThere's a lot to like in the iPhone 17 Pro. The bold design with a gorgeous new orange variant means the phone is guaranteed to turn heads wherever you go. There are new cameras that (predictably) take better photos and videos, and the new 18MP front module is downright cool. EN→zh-CNThe iPhone 17 Pro is in many ways different from last year's model, yet it's also kind of the same - underneath and in principle. On the surface, you're getting a fresh redesign that was really needed after several years of minor tweaks. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's recognizable and comes with some practicality benefits. It's a vehicle for getting heat out, and it appears to be helping, at least a little, in tandem with the new vapor chamber - but neither is a miracle worker and there's still a fair bit of throttling, particularly on the GPU side of things. Well, performance is also improved, of course. In the same-but-different-but-same category, we'll have to file the new iOS 26 - it's looking fancier, but it's not gotten any more intuitive or user-friendly.

EN→zh-CNThe Apple iPhone 17 Pro is the best phone the company can offer right now. If you want the most advanced and pocketable device, then this (or the Pro Max, for larger pockets) is it. I like that Apple is continuing to make the Pro models a little bigger and heavier in the name of battery life, thermal performance, and camera features. So, in that regard, the company nailed the objective and put out a really good high-end product. It doesn’t hurt that if you like orange as a color, then this should be a compelling device for you. Orange isn’t a particular favorite color of mine, but I still find this hue intriguing. It’s bold but not outlandish. It’s just authentically colorful. And while I don’t recommend buying any device strictly based on its color, I don’t think it’s a terrible excuse if you need one final reason to help you justify the purchase.

EN→zh-CNIf you take away the visual redesign, this is a very minor, camera-focused hardware upgrade year for Apple's iPhone, just like it was with the iPhone 16 Pro -- but I'm a sucker for a cool-looking tech product, especially one that takes as many aesthetic chances as the iPhone 17 Pro. And same goes for the camera changes which will be appreciated by the enthusiast. EN→zh-CNThe iPhone 17 Pro is a tiny titan. Small and mighty, it packs everything from the enormous and powerful iPhone 17 Pro Max into an iPhone 17-sized handset. If you want the best camera and the most feature-rich video tools in a pocket-friendly size, the iPhone 17 Pro is easy to recommend. However, if a merely "great" pair of cameras will do, and you find yourself a bit more budget-conscious, the iPhone 17 is our Editors' Choice thanks to its solid everyday performance and fantastic value.

EN→zh-CNThis year’s iPhone lineup is forcing me to re-think the idea of a Pro phone. Is it one that looks and feels expensive or is it one that’s slightly more durable and maybe doesn’t appear as stylish? I’ve seen some discourse online about how the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max don’t look as classy as before and that the iPhone Air seems to be the more premium of the family. And while I agree that the Air is a shinier, more attractive device, for my needs the iPhone 17 Pro is still the way to go. Of course, it would be better if Apple didn’t create this conundrum with this year’s iPhones, but it still has to obey the laws of physics. I like a reliable, durable phone that easily lasts all day, takes great pictures from all distances and angles and won’t burn a literal hole in my pocket.

Smartphone expert Mark delivers his iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max review after testing Apple’s latest-gen, Pro-level devices both in our benchmarks and anecdotal scenarios. In this video, he breaks down the pros and cons of these phones, comparing the iPhone 17 Pro Max vs. Galaxy S25 Ultra in terms of performance, camera quality, battery life and more. Expect a closer look at the aluminium design, upgraded zoom, Center Stage selfie lens, brighter display, vapor chamber cooling and faster charging, too. Mark also talks about what Apple didn’t nail this year, like the extra weight and lack of “wow” AI features. So if you’re wondering whether to upgrade or just hold onto your current phone, this video should have your answer.

EN→zh-CNIf you spend a lot of time gaming on the go and want the best performance and heat management on an iPhone, the new vapour chamber, unibody design and A19 Pro chip are impossible to beat. Plus, it has the best battery life of any iPhone and the fastest charging speeds. The A19 chip also helps with Apple Intelligence, and you can read my thoughts on Apple’s AI software a year later in my iPhone Air review.

EN→zh-CNI’m really torn this year mainly because of the price increase given to the iPhone 17 Pro. Yes, I’m in love with the new redesign, how much more flexible it is shooting selfies with its Center Stage camera, the strong performance out of its A19 Pro chip, and how it gets double the storage capacity. If you’re asking me which one I’d recommend between the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, my answer would be for the latter because of the larger display and longer battery life. For the $100 difference, it’s worth the money — whereas in the past, it would’ve been normally a $200 spread between them. You should get the iPhone 17 Pro if you simply prefer a smaller phone without compromising on the camera performance. On the other hand, it certainly has tough competition with phones like the Pixel 10 Pro.

EN→zh-CNThe iPhone 17 Pro features Apple's fastest processor and best camera array ever. It's a pleasure to look at, hold, and use, and in my experience it never failed to impress. The cameras produce images that can compete with shots from pro cameras, the screen is brilliant, and, even without (still) the ultimate Siri, the Apple Intelligence features are formidable. It's the Pro-level iPhone for those who want a more pocket-friendly design than the Pro Max, at a price that's a little closer to reasonable.

EN→zh-CNYes. As is the case with all phones, if you have last year’s model, there are fewer reasons to upgrade. However, the iPhone 17 Pro series represents the most complete and capable all-around product in a long time, thanks to many meaningful hardware changes — a welcome respite after the last two years of software-focused updates, especially on the Android side.

The most visible shakeup to Apple's smartphone catalog in 2025 is the iPhone Air. It’s a phone whose whole identity revolves around being skinny – and the compromises it makes to get there aren't as comprehensive as you might think. Right alongside the iPhone Air sits the iPhone 17 Pro (and its larger sibling the iPhone 17 Pro Max). It’s the least-Apple-looking phone I’ve seen in almost a decade, a monster muscle car whose ponderous plateau projects pure power. If you've ever wondered what an iPhone designed by Xiaomi or Oppo might look like (and let's be real: who hasn't?) ... you have one less question to keep you up at night.

This year’s iPhone event was a bit more eventful than most with the all new iPhone Air (note: NOT iPhone 17 Air), iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and even new AirPods Pro 3! Many YouTubers have covered the keynote already, but who has done it from Spain with moderately useful, unscripted insight? None but I! In lieu of a hands-on, please enjoy this brains on as we discuss the September Special Event from Apple—Liquid Glass and all.

EN→zh-CNAt the end of the day, the iPhone 17 Pro series is still the best iPhone on the market, and this new camera system is bound to be a draw for many mobile photographers and content creators. Hell, even if you just like orange, this is probably the phone for you. That said, if you don’t think you care about the extra camera lenses, the new iPhone Air is also a great option. You can check out my prior coverage of it to learn more. The iPhone 17 Pro series will begin pre-orders on September 9 and be fully available on September 19. The phone now starts at $1,599 and comes with 256GB of storage. Last year, the 16 Pro started at $1,449 and had 128GB of storage.

Surprising absolutely no one, Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 17 series. I was able to take a high speed hands-on demo of the iPhone 17 Pro, and made a beeline for the new Cosmic Orange model. I'm already very taken with the way it looks and feels, and don't even mind the new camera plateau, but maybe that's just because I'm a sucker for change. In spite of the new unibody design, I found the camera control button on the right still reasonably easy to press, although I think I'm more used to the one on the iPhone 16 Pro and find it a bit easier to click at the moment. More importantly, and this is something I'll have to spend more than an hour with an iPhone 17 Pro to verify, the redesign should help with battery life.

EN→zh-CNWe're a long way from the days when a new iPhone launch just meant one new phone. It shifted to "basically the same phone in two sizes" a decade or so ago, and then to a version of "one lineup of regular phones and one lineup of Pro phones" in 2017 when the iPhone 8 was introduced next to the iPhone X. But thanks to Apple's newly introduced iPhone Air, the iPhone 17 lineup gives new phone buyers more choices and trade-offs than they've ever had before. Apple's phones are now available in a spectrum of sizes, weights, speeds, costs, and camera configurations. And while options are great to have, it also means you need to know more about which one to pick. We've gone hands-on with all four of Apple's new phones, and while more extensive tire-kicking will be required, we can at least try to nail down exactly what kind of person each of these phones is for.

EN→zh-CNThe iPhone 17 finally feels like the iPhone most people wanted years ago. With a 120Hz display, brighter screen, 48 MP ultrawide, and 18 MP Center Stage selfie camera, it no longer lags far behind the Pro. Add in the longer battery life and faster charging, and the $799 model sounds like a much better deal, especially considering the unchanged price tag with double the storage of its predecessor. The iPhone 17 Pro is still the choice for power users. Its telephoto zoom camera, larger main sensor, A19 Pro chip with vapor chamber cooling, and USB 3 port make it the obvious pick for creators. The advanced video suite (ProRes RAW, Apple Log, Genlock) further solidifies it as the iPhone for professionals. For most people, though, the regular iPhone 17 seems to cover the essentials so well that the Pro is harder to justify. Unless you need pro-grade video tools, extended zoom, or 1TB of storage, it sounds like the base iPhone 17 will finally do the job.

EN→zh-CNYou might have already digested all the rumours about the new iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max but now that Apple has officially launched the phones, alongside the 17 Air, the 17, new watches and AirPods 3, we finally have confirmed details of what’s new – and there’s plenty here to get our teeth stuck into. There is no one big upgrade for this year’s Pro phones – Apple’s main focus seems to have been on slimming down the iPhone 17 to produce the brand new Air – but with a faster processor, bigger battery, brighter screens and an upgrade to the cameras, the iPhone Pro models are still the phones to get anyone looking to upgrade the best Apple has to offer.
