The Dell Inspiron 7620 2-in-1 is a solidly built aluminium-shell laptop, able to withstand the sort of day-to-day battering it might receive in a student rucksack but sleek enough to look stylish in an office. While its weight puts it more in the laptop camp than the tablet camp, the screen is impressive in tent mode and the hinges feel like they’d withstand quite a bit of abuse. Although the lack of an included stylus to go with the responsive touchscreen feels like a major oversight, it’s a solid, dependable choice for graphics and writing work but doesn’t quite stand up to video editing or processor-heavy gaming.

There’s plenty to like about the new Inspiron 2-in-1. It’s great value, no matter which model you choose, and both the battery life and sound system are class-leading. The Full HD display won’t blow you away, but if you want a better display then the 4K OLED option won’t break the bank. The Dell is a fair bit heavier than the obvious competition from LG and Samsung, but it feels more solidly put together than either of those models. For potential business users, the absence of a numeric keypad may be an issue, but for most home users I suspect that using the space for the mighty speaker system is the right choice. It’s a shame Dell doesn’t bundle a stylus, though – 2-in-1s really shouldn’t ship without one.

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is a solid laptop. You get the performance, battery life, design, and display that you can expect from a laptop of its price point. However, the keyboard and audio could be better. The other alternative is going for HP Spectre x360 16 (2022). You get more storage, a beefed up GPU, and a gorgeous OLED display. But I would take a step back and look at the price first —- $2,129. Yeah, ouch. If all you want is a big laptop with a pretty display that you can touch for longer than a work day, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (7620) is right for you.

As a mainstream laptop for home or work, the Inspiron 16 2-in-1 has a lot to offer, from its roomy touch display powered by a modern CPU to its sleek, all-metal enclosure and affordable price. We also liked the roomy keyboard sans numpad, huge touchpad, and impressive audio output. The star of the show, however, is its exceptional battery life that provides a runtime that’s hours longer than the competition. We strongly recommend the Inspiron 16 2-in-1 to mainstream buyers looking for a big-screen laptop. Our only hesitation would be for buyers who want a 2-in-1 convertible that will spend as much time in tablet mode as laptop mode. For such a usage scenario, we’d steer you toward a smaller 2-in-1 that’s easier to handle in tablet mode. And we’d also steer content creators looking for a large convertible to a model that offers a better graphics and storage upgrades.

Of our five test systems, the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 came closest to the Inspiron 16 2-in-1 in features and performance, though it's more than $300 dearer. On the flip side, if battery life is a priority, its 18 hours is attractive. On graphics results, the Samsung generally showed better performance, though neither it nor the Inspiron is really designed for, or pitched as, a content-creation system. The gamer-first Lenovo Legion 5i Pro Gen 7 does make a credible showing as either a content-creation or a gaming system. Bear in mind that systems like the HP Spectre x360 16 are likely to see an upgrade to a 12th Generation Intel CPU, which might affect your preferences; the addition of Performance and Efficient cores to the Intel mobile line with 12th Generation Core really is a difference maker. Still, if you'd like to keep the spend under a grand and are looking for a big-screen convertible laptop more for on-desk sharing than in-hand tablet use, the 7620 Inspiron 16 2-in-1 will do the job, and get it done for general productivity, too.
