To sum it up, the top variant of the Alienware M15 R3 is a great laptop, but is hard to recommend to hardcore gamers despite its crazy specifications, mainly because of that display. I also would have loved slightly better thermal performance, and of course a lower price.

The Alienware m15 is an excellent gaming laptop in basically every way. Powering through all of our tests without problem, it should be able to last you a few years before struggling. However, the lackluster speakers and trackpad hold it back from true greatness.

Alienware’s been firing on all cylinders recently, and if you’re in the market for a laptop I’d absolutely recommend giving the lower-priced m15 R2’s a look. They’re beautiful, they’re durable, and as an added benefit? They come in black. After all, if you’re going to pay this much for a luxury machine, you don’t want it getting scratched the first time you take it out—no matter how futuristic the white version looks. Forget Dieter Rams. Richard Sapper had it right.
