We do wish the 16-inch machine had an integrated Ethernet port, but that's easy enough to work around with a Thunderbolt docking station or even just a USB Ethernet adapter.

But, I can think of at least half a dozen other shortcuts I’d want taking up 1.5 letter keys’ worth of real estate instead (even on such a big keyboard). These are minor foibles, at the end of the day, and don’t offset all the power packed into this sleek form.

I felt like this wasn’t really a laptop I should do basic work on. I mean, I don’t need to test if web browsing and email work. Just look at the specs! So I set this up to game, and I did test basic video editing. I really don’t play heavy games, and I am pretty anti-social, so I don’t get involved in online gaming. My basic gaming list is simple games that aren’t massively heavy, and this laptop just breezed through those. I am not a pixel peeper or a frame rate snob. I’m not examining the performance as closely as those of you considering buying this laptop.

I usually set up my review laptops with everything I need to get work done and also some play. The Alienware 18 Area-51 was different. This is like getting a Ferrari. I felt like this wasn’t really a laptop I should do basic work on. I mean, I don’t need to test if web browsing and email work. Just look at the specs! So I set this up to game, and I did test basic video editing. I really don’t play heavy games, and I am pretty anti-social, so I don’t get involved in online gaming. My basic gaming list is simple games that aren’t massively heavy, and this laptop just breezed through those. I am not a pixel peeper or a frame rate snob. I’m not examining the performance as closely as those of you considering buying this laptop.
