As mentioned earlier, the one area where Samsung prevails is price. A base Dell XPS 15 with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD will set you back $1,500. For the same amount, the Notebook 9 Pro gives you a 4K panel and touch capabilities. To get the same kind of screen on the Dell, you’ll have to fork over almost $2,000. That Dell does give you 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a PCIe SSD, a bigger battery, and a faster GPU. You’re still out another $500, though.

In the end, for me, the things I like about the Samsung Notebook 9 EXT 15″ outweighed the things I didn’t like. This was really a nice machine. I will say, for those who really rely on a backlit keyboard. Go check it out before you buy, the keyboard is great to type on but you really need to see the backlighting ahead of time. If that is the one thing you really need to be spot on, that may make or break your decision. It’s really something you need to test for yourself because my brightness preference may be different from yours.

Samsung Notebook 9 Pro review: boring is better than bad

Overall, Samsung has managed to produce an entirely competent laptop in the Notebook 9 Pro, with no show-stopping flaws. It may not be the most exciting computer on the market, but for the asking price, it provides good performance, a solid build quality, and almost all of the features you’ll find on competing laptops like the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 or HP Spectre x360 13.
