Galactic evolution. The Galaxy S9 is a great smartphone with powerful specifications and an excellent camera. Samsung unfortunately waives a dual-camera for this smartphone and reduced the RAM, but the price has nevertheless increased. We check if it makes sense to switch.

Smaller, cheaper and lacking that second camera lens, the Galaxy S9 may not have all the trimmings like its big brother but for many this won't matter; it may not look that way in still images, but the difference in size is noteworthy and will be welcome for those who feel smartphones are just getting too darned big.

For me, the Galaxy S9 does a lot of things right. Considering the display, the camera, overall performance, and flexibility of Android the Galaxy S9 is a top-notch phone. But poor battery life left me with frustration, and on one occasion, without a phone for an entire evening in a completely different city.

Samsung Galaxy S9 second opinion review: A battery short of perfection
Source: Android Central English EN→zh-CN
Despite its less-than-stellar endurance, the Galaxy S9 reminds us why Samsung remains a staple in the Android lineup every year. It refines all of the Galaxy S8's accomplishments and improves on its flaws, fitting almost every headline feature imaginable into a phone that's readily available across all carriers without costing an arm and a leg compared to similar alternatives. With the Galaxy S9, you don't have to choose between a great camera and a headphone jack, or between small bezels and stereo speakers. It's a jack of all trades that just does everything right, so long as you don't need two-day battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is a beautiful piece of work. It’s future- forward design, the stunningly bright display and a re-engineered camera is an attractive proposition if you have the the money lying around, but it’s unlikely to deliver the satisfaction of buying something unique. Samsung’s flagship phone for the first half of 2018 is an iteration of its predecessor at best, and an underwhelming upgrade at its worst.

Galaxy S9 vs. Galaxy S9+: Which Phone Should You Buy?
Source: Tom's Guide English EN→zh-CN
After reviewing both the 6.2-inch Galaxy S9+ and the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9, we think the S9+ offers enough extra features and performance to justify its higher price tag. Still, the S9 is a solid upgrade over past Samsung phones in its own right and is a good choice for anyone who wants a smaller device or balks at paying more than $750 for a smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Review – Perfected or astray?
Source: Android Guys English EN→zh-CN
On the other hand, the S9 and S9 Plus don’t offer a whole lot from their predecessors. It’s the most minimal refresh we’ve seen from Samsung. And when that happens, it muddles the recommendation. Most will probably agree that the S9’s updates aren’t worth hundreds more. And it doesn’t help that its most highlighted feature, the variable aperture camera, doesn’t actually equate to much. The considerable benefits of the S9 are the dual speakers, wide f/1.5 lens, corrected fingerprint scanner location, and brighter screen. It’ll be up to you if that’s worth the extra dough.

The variable aperture shows that the South Korean firm is committed to coming up with its own unique ideas, but while the results are impressive when compared to the competition, we suspect most other handset makers will opt to use software tricks to boost the low-light performance of their smartphones, as is the case with the Pixel 2.

If you prefer a larger phone, the Galaxy S9+ is still the better option for you; you'll enjoy (slightly) better battery life, a bigger screen, a dedicated zoom lens on the back, and an otherwise identical experience. For everyone else, it's hard to think of many reasons not to recommend the Galaxy S9. It may not be the most exciting phone around anymore, but it offers something for everybody, and leaves little to be desired.

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 was a fantastic phone, and the Galaxy S9 is also a fantastic phone. They took the few complaints people had about the older model (like that fingerprint scanner) and fixed them while refining and polishing everything else about the device. It’s arguably the most complete package on the market, and at just $719 it’s plenty competitive with its contemporaries.

Overall, the Galaxy S9 is another winner from the South Korean giant, even if, fundamentally, what we're getting is a new phone in an older casing. All of the big changes on the Galaxy S9 Plus - and the standard S9 - take place on the inside; the outer shell is almost identical to last year's device. While there are a lot of elements in this package which don't work as well as they possibly should - AR Emojis being the prime example - there's no escaping the fact that in the fast-changing world of Android smartphones, the S9 Plus is the best that money can buy right now.

Samsung has been some nice software improvements on the S9 and I haven’t run into much issues. TouchWiz and Android Oreo have been playing together nicely. While the Galaxy S9 is pretty identical to the Galaxy S8 on the outside its hardware changes especially to the camera and its speakers are a much needed and welcome change. If you have a S8 I wouldn’t suggest the jump to the S9 but anything below that I’d say it’s worth the move.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ isn’t a perfect smartphone but it gets very close to the perfection in a highly fragmented Android smartphone segment. The strengths of the phone are its top-notch camera and solid performance. A premium design is an additional luxury. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is more enjoyable for its superior camera capabilities rather than its looks or gimmicky AR features. The Galaxy S9+ camera has to be at the top rung along with Google 2 Pixel and iPhone X.

Finally the recommendation of the Galaxy S9 will be based on which market you are in and which variant you’ll be able to purchase. The Snapdragon 845 variant in the US, China and Japan is a healthy upgrade over its predecessors and I don’t really have much to say against it as a phone, besides the camera exposure issues. Here Samsung iterated and perfected over the S8, and whether the S9 is worth to you as an upgrade is something you’ll need to decide based on its individual parts, because as a package, the Snapdragon S9s don’t disappoint.

I have mixed feelings when reviewing the Galaxy S9, I loved that it still has one of the best smartphone designs with performance improvements, but I hate the newly introduced features and gimmicks that aren’t as exciting as it should be. To call the Galaxy S9 a refined Galaxy S8 would be an understatement, because it is simply a much better smartphone than it’s predecessor in terms of user experience. Despite of that, I’m still not changing the facts of my opinion on not buying the Galaxy S9, and I would wait for a price cut to make my upgrade. If you're a Samsung Galaxy S8 user, the answer for the title above would be a Yes and No. It may seem like many functions have been implemented for the Galaxy S9 compared to the S8, but not many of them are useful practically when it comes to daily tasks. If we had to choose, we’d recommend the smaller Galaxy S9. Anyone who’s in the market for a new phone should seriously consider buying an S9. It might be an insignificant upgrade in terms of physical design, but that’s a concern only if you really, really want people to know you have the latest and greatest phone. Plus, the Galaxy S8 has an awesome design, so with the S9 you're getting more of the same.

If you already own last year’s S8, we’d say take a pass. This blower doesn’t offer any essential new features compared with the previous flagship, and it sure ain’t cheap either. However, if you’re tempted by a Galaxy and you have money to burn, we’d say go right ahead. The Galaxy S9 is a sexy, lovable bundle of seriously premium tech, and it should certainly stand the test of time.

Samsung Galaxy S9 review: A fantastic phone for the masses, but not an exciting one
Source: Android Central English EN→zh-CN
Samsung is going to sell an insane number of these phones — not because they're groundbreaking or hyper-innovative, but because they're solid, beautiful, feature-packed and have fantastic cameras. And that's why Samsung is now the default choice for non-iPhone buyers — and even some in Apple's camp — around the world.

At $720 unlocked for the Galaxy S9, and $840 unlocked for the Galaxy S9+, Samsung has managed to undercut the iPhone X and the Pixel 2 XL while still rising to meet their challenge. The Galaxy S9 is among the best smartphones on the market today, and if it somehow lacks that certain “wow” factor that’s only by virtue of it standing on the shoulders of an already excellent handset. That can only be good news for upgraders.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are subtle upgrades to last year’s S8 line. The most significant improvements are found in the fingerprint scanner position, the new intelligent face scan feature, the AR Emoji 3D avatars, and the camera, but only for the S9+, which gets the secondary zoom camera of the Note 8. In any case, if you’re a current Galaxy S8 user, we’d say an upgrade to the S9 would be completely unnecessary, but that’s expected. For owners of older devices, like the S7 or S6, the Galaxy S9 will feel like a major step forward.

Two days before Mobile World Congress 2018 officially kicked off, I was already in Spain, being secreted to a closed-door preview of the Samsung Galaxy S9 at some back alley gallery in Barcelona, camera in one hand, non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in another. Not that there was any real need, considering the S9 has probably been one of the most-leaked smartphones yet. And yes, almost everything you've read about the device to date, is true. Of course, now that my NDA has expired, I can share actual first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, so let's get down to details.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were the best all-around phones for several months last year, until the Pixel 2 stole Samsung's camera thunder and the iPhone X pulled ahead in t display quality and its Face ID technology. Just a quick personal observation. Samsung is finally learning to play the crowd with the Galaxy S9. Instead of just throwing new features, they're making sure things work better, and play better with each other. I really liked that small little tidbit about the Lilac Purple color not being some random afterthought and instead is in the spirit of Pantone's Color of the Year. For Samsung fans, the S9 is familiar and builds upon the features of last year's S8. It's not revolutionary, but it feels more usable, more accessible, and more fun.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ First Impressions
Source: NDTV Gadgets English EN→zh-CN
Like we said earlier, potentially the most significant upgrades the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ bring are in the camera department - super-slow mo recording at 960fps, dual aperture capability on the rear camera sensor, which is capable of shooting at f/2.4 when there’s plenty of light, but can switch to f/1.5 when the phone detects low-light conditions. This is supplemented by a secondary 12-megapixel sensor on the Galaxy S9+ for a dual rear camera setup. Needless to say, the time we spent with the Galaxy S9 duo on Sunday wasn’t enough to make any definite comments on their camera capability, and we look forward to testing them out in detail soon.

Galaxy S9 Camera: The 5 Biggest Changes
Source: Tom's Guide English EN→zh-CN
With the S9 and S9+, that's changing. Samsung is betting big on cameras with the new phones. Given the progress the company has made over the last two years, we're inclined to think the Galaxy S9 will do more than make for a worthy adversary against the likes of the iPhone X and Pixel 2. Breakthrough features like its mechanically adjustable aperture are only going to become more commonplace as the industry catches on; for right now though, the Galaxy S9 is leading the charge.

Samsung is also offering its first-ever global pre-order offer called Trade Up and Save, allowing you to get up to $350 off the cost of the Galaxy S9 when you trade in last year’s flagship from any manufacturer. Trade Up and Save offers tiers so those with a Galaxy S7 or two-year-old flagship from another OEM will receive a little less.

The S9 and S9+ have some other minor feature updates as well, like an integration with Samsung's smarter things app, which is used to connect all the smart devices in your home, and the ability to split two apps across a screen horizontally. The enhanced camera is the major feature change on this device, so if you're a business owner who relies heavily on your mobile phone for photos or video, this is the device for you. There are some good feature improvements overall, and the draw of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ is that they can offer usability and support to busy workers.
