Just in case it wasn’t obvious throughout this article, we really like the Razer Blade 17 (2022). Except for a few minor caveats, there really isn’t much to complain about. The chassis is well-built, attractive, and has a premium feel. We absolutely love the high-refresh rate, NVIDIA G-Sync-enabled display, which hits the sweet spot for a system this size. The panel looks fantastic and its resolution is a perfect match for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which managed to put up smooth, triple-digit framerates across the board. The Razer Blade 17’s integrated THX-enabled multi-speaker system is among the best we’ve heard in a laptop yet, its keyboard and trackpad are very good, and there’s plenty of various IO options on-board. If you’re shopping for a flagship, no-compromise gaming notebook, the latest Razer Blade 17 should be on your short list. The Razer Blade 17 looks and performs great and the user experience is top-notch as well.

The Razer Blade 17 is a solid gaming laptop that I’d expect to find in the mid-$2,000 range. You might be thinking that price is a bit too low for a laptop that’s as powerful as the Razer Blade 17. Well, power only goes so far. People need to see what they paid for, and if all they’re seeing is a far too dim display that belongs on a Chromebook, they’re not getting what they paid for. If you have money to blow, consider the Alienware x17 R2 ($4,800). It’s also stupid expensive, but at least you get a pleasantly bright display. Overall, the Razer Blade 17 is a solid gaming laptop for those that can find it at a discount and are willing to look at a different panel configuration.

Touching on the last year-to-year change that you might frequently use, Razer’s 1080p Windows Hello webcam has received some noticeable improvements. While it still produces a grainy image that struggles with exposure, the color accuracy, white balance, and detail are good enough to rely on in a pinch. It’s a noticeable improvement over the 720p cameras that Razer previously used, but it’s relative. Most laptop webcams are still bad, but this one’s much less bad than before. Still, you may just want to get a better webcam if you live in Zoom during the workday. A buying decision for a big, expensive gaming laptop usually weighs heavily on how powerful it is and how much it costs. But if your list of criteria also includes a laptop with an appealing and thin design, a stellar keyboard and trackpad, alongside a bunch of power, the Blade 17 is one of a few options out there at all to meet your needs. And thankfully, this year’s model is a particularly good, if still quite expensive, one.
