This latest version of the Swift 5 is small and powerful and while it is intended for use when out and about, as it has a full size HDMI port there is no reason while it should not be used at home or even in the office if it is the latter then make good use of the Kensington Lock socket or someone else will be using it.

Most of my complaints here are super-minor. One is that there's no IR camera, and while that's something that I'll always bring up, it's also something that we really only use once per session unless apps are using it for authentication. The other is that I'd like audio to be better, and that's probably my only real issue.

The Swift was a little lighter though, so could be a better option for portability, though this means less cooling capacity, so less performance when under heavy load. Overall, I thought the Acer Swift 5 was fine, it’s a nice little laptop that I had no trouble using, it’s just that nothing in particular stood out to me as being amazing, or bad for that matter, it just seems a little pricey to me, but that’s typically the case with smaller and lighter weight machines like this.

These are the top 5 things we like about the Acer Swift 5

So these are a couple of things that I like about the Swift 5 so far. Compared with my current Swift 3 laptop, I would say that the former is a pretty big improvement especially for the Antimicrobial display which is also a touchscreen with Corning® Gorilla® Glass. In terms of price tags, the 8GB variant is RM3999 whereas the 16GB variant is RM4999.

But the Swift 5 does compromise a bit on the usability aspect. A flimsy typing experience and the inclusion of an anachronistic dedicated power adapter hurt the Swift 5’s value proposition, and relegate it to a niche of people who care about performance above most other things. As it stands, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and the XPS 13 are better choices in the premium ultraportable laptop category, while the ZenBook 14 is a better option that won't break the bank.

But if you can look past those quibbles, the Swift 5 is a fun little laptop, one that you can easily carry around, that lasts for hours on end, and that you can plug in at the end of the day to enjoy a bounty of games that only the Windows ecosystem provides. At a purely gut level, I’ve really enjoyed having it around. While it may not be an M1-powered MacBook, it raises the bar in its own way.

The Acer Swift 5 is a joy to use. While it starts with the tremendous portability, the remarkable performance and flexibility with its touchscreen make it just a wonderful all-purpose laptop. The battery life is really just the icing on the cake; even when I left it away from the charger for a day, I had plenty of juice to spare.
