Acer Chromebook 14 review: Cheap at twice the price

We have some serious issues with the screen, and it's never going to win any prizes for its speed, but we're willing to overlook these based on its exceptionally low price. For just under £200 all-in, you've got a serviceable (if not stunning) everyday machine, which makes it excellent value. If you need to refresh your laptop on a budget, you could do an awful lot worse.

The display is adequate at best, the keyboard is also average, and performance feels hampered by the low memory allocation. It's a solid machine, but the compromises may be too much for some.

As such, Acer’s Chromebook 14 leaves me with mixed feelings. Its metal-clad chassis is excellent, the keyboard comfortable, and you’re getting superb build quality. It feels like a grown-up computer in the way that other Chromebooks – such as its chief rival, the HP Chromebook 14 – simply don’t.
