戴尔希望挽救现存笔记本电脑的概念性尝试在Dell Precision M2800上十分成功。不同于一些笔记本准系统生产商经常使用游戏笔记本为基础设计移动工作站的方式,戴尔采用了Latitude系列的商务笔记本作为其架构基础。这提供了必需的质量保证,充足的接口,面向用户的功能性和灵活的可扩展性。这款产品附带的三年的质保和一些可选服务在工作站领域显然是一个不可或缺的部分。
除了方便易用的机身,戴尔在它的配置上也下了很大功夫。AMD FirePro W4170M 显卡可以满足很多工作的需求,且在部分测试中击败了一些更强大的对手。我们同样很满意它高性能的Intel四核处理器和快速的固态硬盘。很遗憾戴尔在硬盘容量上节约了成本,它提供的可用空间很难满足实际使用的需要。
它的全高清屏幕质量很好,但并不出色。除了一些方便的功能,它的可视角度稳定性和亮度分布很难让我们满意。有限的色域覆盖范围在一部分专业应用中也会成为一个问题。
更严重的一个问题是它在持续负载下很热的散热气流和很高的机身温度。内部组件散发的热量集中在了机身左侧。不过,它的系统噪音不大,且重要组件并没有达到影响使用的温度。
最后要提到的一点显然是它的价格。尽管我们的测试机并不是最便宜的一款移动工作站产品,但它合理的性价比仍然可以击败很多竞争对手。
