EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionWhat the Max XL delivers for around $100 is really quite impressive, and it makes competing phones like the Blu R1 Plus look pretty poor in comparison. Sure, you can spend an extra $100 and upgrade to our current favorite budget phone, the Moto G5 Plus, getting a nice aluminum chassis, better performance and a faster camera. But the Max XL is so good that you might not want to — especially if you value the ZTE's bigger screen and slightly longer battery life.

EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionIf all you want is a big screen with a big battery attached to it, the Max XL has you covered in spades. The full HD display gets the job done, though I wish it were protected from fingerprints. The battery pushes the Max XL through two full days of use, which should be enough for any/everyone. Data speeds are quick, but voice quality was middling at best. The Android 7 Nougat operating system has a refreshingly light skin from ZTE and runs smoothly on ZTE's hardware. The camera app has just enough features to keep creative shooters shooting, and the sensor produces fine images.

EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionThe ZTE MAX XL will certainly appeal to people who want to use a phablet as their primary computing device and consume content on the large 6-inch display. The large battery that offers 3990 mAh capacity is the second major feature of this affordable phablet.

EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionThen again, the phone is only $130, which is a great deal if you're looking for a big-screen phone for less than $200. The Samsung Galaxy J7, for example, retails for about $180. Though we haven't reviewed the J7 yet (and therefore can't determine if one is better than the other), on paper the J7 has a smaller 5.5-inch display, a 3,00mAh battery and runs an older version of Android (6.0).
