With a 48MP quad camera, 6.5-inch large screen and a 5000mAh battery, Realme 5s has some of the top features available in its price segment. With decent looks (although not new), it may attract quite a few takers. This price segment is already flooded with tons of options from Xiaomi, Vivo and Realme itself. Some of its competition include Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, Realme 5 and Vivo U10. Overall, Realme 5s is a good choice for those looking for a phone with general/average expectation like decent camera, good battery life and performance.

The Realme 5s is just the Realme 5 repackaged with a new camera and coated with a new paint layer. But at a time when the competition is much more fierce in this price bracket, I would say that you are better off getting the Redmi Note 8, instead of the Realme 5s. However, if you want to only buy a Realme smartphone, I would recommend that you wait for the Realme 6, and seeing the company’s launch pattern I would say, the launch is not that far off.

As for the price, RM799 is logical. It’s literally the higher spec version of the realme 5. Is it a good phone? Well, depends on you. If you like a wider field of view on that 48MP camera plus a little more RAM, then get the realme 5s.

Our opinion on the Realme 5, or in this case Realme 5s, hasn't changed and it's an easy recommendation once again. For the same asking price, Realme is giving you a hardware refresh of the original Realme 5 with a better main camera and more adequate storage variants, now starting at 4GB/64GB. And aside from the dated microUSB connector, the Realme 5s would probably remain mostly uncontested in this price range. Then again, if you can get a hold of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, you should consider it as well - pretty much the only real rival to Realme's 5-series.

After going through all the parameters, it appears that the Realme 5s is a confusing option. Why confusing? Well, as an upgrade, the Realme 5s brings a very good camera setup for its price and a design that commands a second look. The massive 5000mAh battery along with a power-efficient ColorOS 6 goes on to offer two-day stamina on an average. And with the Snapdragon 665 chipset, performance is on par with what you expect from a phone at this price.

The Realme 5s is a very minor refresh of the Realme 5. The new main camera delivers slightly better results in daylight but still struggles in low-light situations for stills and videos. Other than this and the new body colour, there really isn't anything to distinguish this device from its predecessor. Since this phone has launched at the same price as its predecessor, we can't complain. It doesn't make sense to buy the Realme 5 now, unless you're on a tight budget and don't mind missing out on the new camera.

Both handsets come with finger print sensor, face unlock, dual VoLTE support and triple SIM slot with a dedicated micro SD card slot. So when you compare both the handsets the Redmi Note 8 seems a better option for Rs. 9,999.

When we reviewed the Realme 5, it was among the few smartphones to sport a macro camera, but things have changed now. Competitors such as the Redmi Note 8 have one too, which could have prompted Realme to bump up the primary sensor. Apart from their performance in low light, we had found the Realme 5's cameras to be acceptable for the price. Will the Realme 5s set a new benchmark in this price segment?
