EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionThe time you read this review, an aspect of it will already be out of date, because we reviewed it with Windows 8 on-board, an operating system that worked fine without touch, but which was skewed better for machines with it. Unfortunately, the UX305 doesn’t have touch, at least not the version we’ve been able to check out, and while that would be a bit of a concern for Windows 8, Windows 10 should have no problems with it whatsoever.

EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionIt is only when we consider a recently reviewed competitor – PCSpecialist’s Lafité Ultrabook – that the UX305 seems less appealing. Lafité packs in more power thanks to a Broadwell-U i3, has more storage capacity, and is only just heavier at 1.4kg and only just thicker at 18mm. Perhaps most importantly, it is £150 cheaper.

EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionThe premium feeling yet reasonably-priced Zenbook UX305 is a great success. It doesn't tick every box - the screen isn't perfect and there are a couple of rough edges, but if you're looking for a nippy laptop for under £700, it’s a great choice. It's cheaper than the current MacBook Air, has more RAM and a thinner design, and it also has a higher resolution screen. With that said, it still comes with Windows 8.1, which might be enough to put a few buyers off. Still, in terms of sheer value-for-money, the Zenbook UX305 is superb. EN→zh-CN Archive.org versionIntel may have switched its marketing dollars to laptop/tablet hybrids, but there's still a lot of value to be found among lightweight ultrabooks. Until now, we probably would have steered shoppers to the base (1080p non-touch) model of Dell's XPS 13, which is $799 with a Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD. But for Asus to offer double the memory and storage for $100 less is remarkable.
