Acer Chromebook Plus 515 review: A capable laptop at a bargain price

The Acer Chromebook Plus 515 makes a compelling argument for the value of Google's beefier Chromebook Plus platform. For a relatively affordable price, you get fast performance with quick app launches, multi-tasking prowess, and smooth video streaming. The Full HD display is sharp, the keyboard is comfortable for typing, and Chrome OS feels super responsive. Yes, you can get a very cheap Chromebook these days for less than half the price of this one. But if you can stretch a bit above that then you really should, because the Plus 515 really does offer a superior experience than cheaper models with meagre specs. There are some sacrifices, such as a relatively dim display, no touchscreen and no number pad. But overall, the Chromebook Plus 515 gets the important stuff right: snappy performance, durable build quality, full I/O capabilities, and an excellent price. It's a laptop I'd recommend to students, new freelancers, or really anyone who wants a budget-friendly laptop and isn't wedded to Windows or macOS software.

I tested Acer's new business-friendly Chromebook and it nails all the essentials for pro users

The Chromebook Plus Enterprise 515 is now on sale on Acer's website. Current prices start at $699 for the model with the Intel Core 3 100U processor, which is fair considering the specs and performance that you're getting. I recommend this laptop to Chromebook fans who want a decently performing machine at an affordable price but not exactly to business users who want a powerful laptop. Its hardware isn't impressive, and the display is dull. For professionals, I would instead suggest the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441. It's more expensive at around $900, but the level of performance you get is well worth the price. HP Chromebook Plus x360 is another good pick for people who enjoy Google's ecosystem. At this time, HP's model is seeing a $136 discount.
