It has never been more exciting for midrange devices. Instead of being a category full of let-downs, companies are finally identifying a few key features that can truly set a handset apart. Motorola continues to deliver on its color science, along with its faux vegan leather that gives the lineup a recognizable signature that doesn’t feel cheap or gaudy. Not only that, but Motorola is doubling down on critical pillars like battery life, premium display quality, respectable cameras, and solid performance. The biggest standout is the included stylus that, while not as cutting-edge as Samsung’s, is a practical everyday tool for almost every pen fan except maybe hardcore artists. Color me impressed by the Moto G Stylus 2025. There really are no other phones that offer all of this, plus a built-in stylus, at this price point.

The Motorola Moto G Stylus has a vibrant display, decent performance, and a fully waterproof design. And of course, it packs a stylus that’s useful for writing notes, sketching, or annotating screenshots. That said, the phone's cameras are mediocre at best, and Motorola doesn't offer nearly as much software support as you get from some competitors. If you want a stylus without spending a small fortune on the $1,299.99 Samsung Galaxy Ultra, the Moto G Stylus is worth a look. But if you can live without a stylus and stretch your budget, the Google Pixel 9a has a faster processor, better cameras, more helpful AI tools, and a generous support window, making it our Editors’ Choice for midrange Android phones.

It's tough to find reasons not to recommend the Moto G Stylus 2025. Despite some of its drawbacks, this is one of the best Android phones under $400, and one you definitely shouldn't sleep on, even with more expensive phones like the Pixel 9a looming over it. The specs and performance make this a great phone for the price, and the camera is surprisingly good, even if it needs a bit of tweaking. And while the phone isn't perfect, none of the negatives feel like dealbreakers to me, even after a few weeks. Ultimately, the Moto G Stylus 2025 solidifies Motorola as the king of affordable phones in North America.

The Moto G Stylus is on sale for $400 at Motorola's website, making it the most expensive model of the 2025 trio. Two color options are available: the aforementioned Surf The Web, and Gibraltar Sea, a darker shade of blue. This phone is great for people who want a midrange device but are willing to pay a little extra for a premium experience. I've tested all three, and can say that this is easily my favorite of Motorola's 2025 series.

With its stylus, the Motorola G Stylus 5G (2025) is a unique mid-range proposition. Recognizing its potential, Motorola is now launching a similarly equipped model in the Indian market in the face of the Moto Edge 60 Stylus. But there have already been a few Stylus-equipped Motorola models in the US market. The 2025 model we are reviewing brings a few key updates - screen, design, durability, performance, and charging. Let's not forget the latest Android OS, paired with a promise of longer software support. The good news is that it's an all-around package with pretty much everything you may expect from a midrange device - a nice, bright screen, loud speakers, smooth performance, excellent cameras and fast charging. Okay, it's almost everything you may expect, as we could have wished for better battery life here. But other than that, we have no real complaints and we recommend this Moto, whether you are looking for a mid-range phone with a stylus, or just a reasonably priced device that covers most bases.

If you want an affordable phone with stylus support, the Moto G Stylus (2025) is in a class of its own. It improves key areas like display brightness, stylus responsiveness, and chip performance. Even though the short battery life is a bit disappointing, the fast wired charging and the option for wireless charging somewhat make up for that downside. Alternatives like the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G offer longer update support and better cameras, but they don't have the G Stylus’s pen features, which have always placed this Motorola mid-range in its own pocket dimension. At the end of the day, Motorola’s done a great job delivering meaningful upgrades at a sensible price — and that makes the Moto G Stylus (2025) one of the best budget phones of the year so far, so it is definitely worth your consideration.

I’m usually telling people to hold off on new Motorola phones until deals kick in, but I don’t feel that’s needed with the Moto G Stylus 2025. I’m sure the phone will spend most of its life on sale for $275-300, but this is the first year I’m confident saying the device is worth its $400 launch price. Motorola has done an excellent job with its midrange phones. While the Moto G Stylus isn’t perfect, the company has done enough to keep the price affordable without significantly compromising the user experience.

The Moto G Stylus is available from most carriers and the Motorola Store on Amazon for $399.99. That's not a bad price for what you get with the phone. The display is quite wonderful, the stylus is handy in some circumstances, and there's even a 3.5mm headphone jack if you still care about such things. At $399, this phone is priced right, under both of its more recent competitors, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro (though $20 more than the non-pro version) and the Pixel 9a, but both of those other phones have a halo feature that is a compelling argument to buy. The Moto G Stylus doesn't really have that. The stylus itself is neat, but it doesn't work very well, and even when it does, it doesn't do much. But a stylus can be very much a "better to have it and not need it proposition."

Motorola has improved a lot about the Moto G Stylus with the 2025 edition. Most crucially, it's improved the stylus responsiveness — undoubtedly the most important part of this phone. When you consider the brighter and sharper display, as well as the improved durability, the new G Stylus looks like a worthy successor to the series. We think it is definitely worth the wait if you are in the market for a more budget phone with a stylus. We can't wait to test out the Moto G Stylus (2025), so stay tuned for our tests to see just how much better the new camera system is and whether the battery life is different than last year.
