For the price, the LG X Power is a capable phone for Boost Mobile users that can keep you browsing, texting, and talking for hours longer than most comparable devices. The Samsung Galaxy J7 gets you a brighter AMOLED display, a sharper camera, and features like NFC and dual-band Wi-Fi, but it'll cost you $70 more. The LG Stylo 2 is more affordable and has some useful stylus-optimized features, but it's held back by an aging processor.

Who is this phone for? This phone is really for those out there who do not require a flagship phone with the fastest processor or the most stylish design. This is for the average Joe and Jill who want a phone that just works and lasts for a long time before needing to be charged. Sure it may not interact with Android Auto as it should but there was a way around that, but once again, the people who this phone is targetted at are unlikely to use Android Auto. This would be the perfect phone for my mother, my father, probably even my wife, and especially younger kids who MUST have a phone but do not require the best phone around.

This mid-ranger isn’t a device made to impress, and it’s really meant for users who don’t do that much on their phones yet often complain about battery life. If messaging and social media are your primary uses, whereas gaming and video are not, the X Power is well suited for you.

Value is pretty decent as you can pick up this device off-contract at major carriers up here in Canada for $249 CAD. In the USA you should be able to pick it up for well under $200 and depending on where you pick it up, it could be unlocked. At the start of testing, only Bell was carrying it here in the Great White North, but now it's available almost everywhere. Overall this phone is great and delivers on LGs promise of a phone with a huge battery that isn't a huge device. If you're looking for a phone that you'll have to charge a couple times a week instead of a couple times a day, this is about your only choice. As I mentioned earlier, there are a few things that could be better, but overall it won't disappoint; not for the price.

Now we return to the question posed at the beginning of this review: is the LG X Power good enough to be someone’s starter phone? My answer would have to be no. I wish for the sake of its glorious battery, that I could recommend it, but it’s many flaws disallow me from doing so in good conscience. There are simply better options in the same range.
