This phone retains a differentiated design, while making compromises on performance, display. My biggest fear of not recommending the Note 3S is its poor battery, which according to my own tests didn’t even last beyond 7 hours.

It’s interesting to note that the main differences between this model and the now-discontinued Note 3 and Note 3 Plus are all on the outside. In some ways, such as screen resolution, microSD card support and battery capacity, this phone is actually a step backwards from the Note 3 Plus – which even cost Rs. 1,000 less at launch. Either Coolpad has decided to prioritise looks over features with the Rs. 9,999 Note 3S, or inflation has taken a bite out of its spec sheets.

Earlier iterations of the this phone may have been good, but the Coolpad Note 3s leaves a lot of room for improvement. It is outperformed by competitors like the Redmi 3s Prime and Lenovo K6 Power, and doesn't make for a good buy.

The Coolpad Note 3S comes at a time when it faces a lot of competition, both externally and within the Coolpad family too. While we liked the design and clean software build, the small battery and average camera don’t give us much confidence. The specs too are somewhat weak. The Coolpad Note 3S is priced at Rs. 9,999 and is available exclusively from Amazon.in.

Having said that, there are better smartphones in this segment. Xiaomi's Redmi 3S Prime has more features. The Xiaomi phone also clicks better photos and has a metal body. Then there are the phones like the Lenovo K6 Power and the Moto G Turbo, both of which are formidable devices with prices very close to that of the Coolpad Note 3S.

More than a month after unveiling the Coolpad Note 5 for the Indian audience at Rs 10,999, Coolpad today launched Coolpad Note 3S, strategically priced at Rs 9,999 to complete the full circle of devices within the 6k to 15k range. This is the budget smartphone segment in India and one that has seen the maximum sales within the Indian market. Coolpad Note 3S shall be available Dec 7 onwards exclusively on amazon.in. The smartphone is based on Android 6.0 with the Coolpad proprietary Cool UI 8.0 interface.
